Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation focused on mental health training and research. MHFA courses teach members of the public how to provide initial help to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.
MHFA Training Outcomes
Currently I am accredited to offer the Standard Mental Health First Aid course. This 12-hour course teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to someone who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. On this course, you will learn to recognise common mental health problems, how to provide initial help to someone experiencing a mental health problem using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan, and how to respond in a crisis situation. You will also be taught about where and how to access professional help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
This course is delivered as a 12-hour face to face course (2 x 6 hr days). Please contact Dr Cate Howell to request a course for your particular organisation/group. Dr Cate is able to travel to deliver courses. The cost is $297.70 (includes GST).
