Men’s Mental Health: Mental Health Skills Training (face-face)

This interactive one-day workshop aims to increase knowledge and skills in relation to assessing and managing men’s mental health issues and current treatment approached.

Re-accreditation with the RACGP and ACRRM, and with the GPMHSC for Mental Health Skills Training is currently being sought.

The workshop will outline the main mental health disorders affecting men; key aspects of diagnosis and assessment, use of assessment tools; treatment planning and range of treatment approaches and available community supports, referral pathways and resources.

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Determine appropriate MBS items to utilise in relation to mental health care.
  2. Describe the most common mental health issues affecting men in the Australian community.
  3. Differentiate the perspectives and needs of consumers and carers to inform subsequent care.
  4. Choose appropriate assessment strategies for men (including risk-assessment) presenting with mental health concerns.
  5. Generate an evidence-based and needs-based GP mental health treatment plan, in consultation with consumers and carers.
  6. Determine local services and resources in relation to providing holistic mental health care for men.
